What is a second photographer??

A second photographer (or “second shooter”) is an additional professional photographer who works alongside your main photographer. While your lead photographer focuses on the key moments, the second photographer captures extra angles, candid moments, and details happening at the same time.

1. You want full coverage of both partners getting ready

If you and your fiancé are getting ready in different locations, a second photographer allows both moments to be captured at the same time—no rushing or missing anything.

2. You’re having a larger wedding

For weddings with a bigger guest count, a second photographer helps capture more candid moments, reactions, and interactions throughout the day.

3. You love variety in your gallery

Two photographers = more angles. While one captures your first kiss from the front, the other might capture your partner’s reaction or your family in the background.

4. Your timeline is tight

If your schedule is packed, having a second photographer helps everything move more efficiently—especially during family photos, details, and reception coverage.

My Professional Recommendation

From my experience, a second photographer is always a great investment if your budget allows—especially for weddings with multiple locations or larger guest counts. It ensures your day is captured more fully and gives you a more complete story when you look back on your photos.

At the end of the day, your wedding photos are one of the only things you’ll have forever. Having a second photographer means more memories, more moments, and more of your story preserved.

If you’re unsure what’s best for your wedding day, I’m always happy to help you decide based on your timeline and vision!
